LGBTQ+ Scientists and Innovators
This year, we’re celebrating Pride through the theme “Science and Innovation”– recognising the LGBTQ+ pioneers, researchers, technologists, and innovators whose contributions have shaped our understanding of the world and driven progress across countless fields.
From groundbreaking discoveries in medicine and computing to advances in engineering, environmental science, and space exploration, LGBTQ+ individuals have helped push the boundaries of what’s possible. Throughout Pride Month, we’ll be highlighting inspiring stories, sharing learning opportunities, and exploring how diversity of thought and experience fuels innovation.
LGBTQ+ rights and visibility in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) refer to the systemic efforts to ensure workplace safety, equitable career progression, and open representation for queer scientists, researchers, and tech professionals. It addresses historical exclusion and strives to combat workplace bias.
Throughout history, LGBTQ+ individuals have made groundbreaking contributions to science, technology, medicine, and environmental research – often while overcoming significant social barriers.

💜 Stella Nyanzi (Uganda) – A medical anthropologist whose research has advanced understanding of public health, sexuality, and reproductive rights in Africa.
