Support for Individuals

Support for Individuals

Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid (BCWA) offers support to individuals addressing both immediate needs and long-term recovery.

Our IDVA service focuses on supporting victims at high risk of serious harm or fatality due to domestic abuse. Independent Domestic Violence Advocates provide expert crisis intervention, conducting risk assessments and coordinating immediate safety measures.

Our Mainline offers information and signposting to survivors within their communities who may not need refuge accommodation. Our Mainline workers provide risk assessing, safety planning and signposting.

Support for Minority Ethnic and Migrant women

Minority Ethnic and Migrant survivors of domestic abuse may face several unique challenges and cultural nuances that can affect their ability to seek help and receive support. We assist migrant women and EEA Nationals with No Recourse to Public Funds who have suffered domestic abuse and sexual violence. This free service is a lifeline for women facing highly dangerous and vulnerable situations.

Support for Japanese Victims/Survivors

BCWA, in partnership with the Japanese Embassy in London, offers tailored outreach advice in Japanese for female and male survivors of domestic abuse who reside in the UK with a non-judgemental listening ear.

We offer telephone, email and face-to face consultation for survivors of domestic abuse and make referrals to solicitors (family, immigration and housing) and local social services. We can also offer support for MARAC, court attendance and liaising with other available services.

This project is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs efforts to support families as part of The Hague Convention (Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction).

The IRIS Programme (Identification & Referral to Improve Safety)

80% of women in abusive relationships seek help from health services at least once, often through their GP. Since this may be their first or only contact with professionals, a proper response to domestic abuse disclosure is crucial. The IRIS Programme trains health professionals to identify and refer women who may be victims of abuse to community support from our IRIS Advocate Educators.

BCWA runs the IRIS Programme in Bromley, partnering with primary health care practitioners. The program enhances patient safety and wellbeing while creating domestic abuse-aware GP practices with fully equipped and informed teams.
